Nathan Boudreaux at arenafootball.com draws up a splendid top 10 of memorarble moments from the 2007 Arena Football season. Some of my favorites from his list:
4- San Jose Wins Third Championship in Six Seasons – In this day of free agency in professional sports, it’s hard to define the term dynasty. But, in the Arena Football League, the San Jose SaberCats are the closest thing to a dynasty after winning their third championship in six years with a 55-33 victory over Columbus in ArenaBowl XXI.
Not quite a dynasty by my definition, but still, San Jose has been dominating, and really squashed what would have been a storybook underdog plotline by beating the Destroyers. The Columbus run was another favorite from the list:
3- Columbus Destroyers Run in the Playoffs – The Cinderella season for the Columbus Destroyers ended before midnight with a 55-33 loss to San Jose in the ArenaBowl, but the Destroyers certainly got the attention of the entire League. Columbus limped into the postseason with a 7-9 record and had lost five of their last six regular season games. But, once the ‘second season’ started in the playoffs, the club caught fire, knocking off Tampa Bay, Dallas and Georgia in consecutive weeks before falling to San Jose in the championship game.
Improbable to be sure, and a lot of fun to watch in the playoffs.
7- VooDoo Returns to the Field; New Orleans hosts ArenaBowl - The VooDoo is back. After sitting out the ‘06 season because of the devastating affects of Hurricane Katrina, the New Orleans VooDoo returned to action during the ‘07 season.
Who can argue with that, a top story for sure.
